PEAK- Parents, Educators & Kids
The goal of PEAK is to promote the importance of classroom music by bringing students, teachers and parents together to share music learning at its finest. This is achieved through this festival by giving classroom music students the opportunity to demonstrate their musical achievement, to inform parents about the goals and activities of classroom music and to provide opportunities for classroom music teachers to share and learn from each other.
The focus of a PEAK Festival is on the creative process of making music rather than the final product. In the elementary classroom, it is the music specialists’ challenge every day to help expand a child’s way of seeing, thinking, writing, discovering and creating. The arts help us express ourselves and understand our world; they teach discipline, how to make choices and new skills.
PEAK festivals have been discussed by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Classroom Committee for nearly ten years. In November 1999, Clinton County held its first festival as a pilot program for NYSSMA. Its continued success has led other counties in the state to host their own versions of a PEAK festival.

Honors Recital
The CCMEA Honors Recital is a showcase of Clinton County students who have achieved a high level of music performance skills. Participation in the recital is based upon the students’ achievement in the New York State School Music Association Solo And Small Ensemble Evaluation Festival. Selected students will have an opportunity to perform for the general public. The recital is open to soloists and chamber ensembles. Traditionally, the Honors Recital is held in May and is the culminating event of the school year for the Association.
All-County
The CCMEA All-County features three performance groups each year: a concert band, a mixed chorus and a third group that is decided upon by a committee. The concert band and mixed chorus are made-up of students grades 6 - 9. The third group changes from year to year allowing different musicians to be featured. Past groups have included a string orchestra, women’s chorus, 10-12 concert band, 10-12 jazz ensemble and a percussion ensemble. These groups showcase Clinton County students who have achieved a high level of music performance skills. Participation in All-County is based upon the student’s achievement in the New York State School Music Association Solo and Small Ensemble Evaluation Festival and teacher recommendation. Traditionally, All-County is held during the first full weekend in February.
